Sauber team history

the Sauber team was set up by Peter Sauber and ran as the Sauber team from 1993 to 2005. From 2006 to 2009 it was bought by BMW and was run as BMW Sauber. Control Returned to Peter Sauber in 2010 and the team ran as Suber until 2018. From 2019 through to 2023 the team ran as Alfa Romeo before returning to the Sauber name in 2024. Audi are in the process of taking over the team ready for it to be the Audi works team from 2026.

This was a difficult season for the team with the car being consistently the slowest on the grid. It replaced both drivers at the end of the season and there continue to be changes in the personel prior to the team becoming the Audi works team from 2026.

The 2018 season was inprovement on the 2017 season as they signed a deal to continue to use Ferarri engines but branded under the Alpha Romeo name. Charles Leclerc joined the team and was picked up as a potential winner so after a a year with Sauber moved to Feraarri for 2019. Marcus Erricson struggled again and was moved to test driver at the end of the season.

The 2016 season was another difficult season as they scored points in only one race. During the season Peter Sauber and Monisha Kaltenborn sold their investment in the company to a Swiss based investment company.

Sauber had two new drivers for 2015, the inexperienced marcus Erricson and the rookie Felipe Nasr. Sauber are banking on the form they showed in lower formula being replicated in F1. In the first race of 2015 bboth cars finiished in the points, a big change from the previous season. THe season was disrupted early on by a contractual dispute with Giedo van der Garde.

For the 2014 season Adrin Sutil moved to Force India to join Esteban Gutierrez. Monisha Kalterborn continued as team principal working with a limited budget, but it was a poor season for them as they failed to score a single point for the first time in their history.
