Williams team history
During the 2020 season Williams sold the team to an investment company and the family stepped down from day to day involvement in the company.
Frank Williams ran a series of cars for other people with mixed success, but then founded Williams Grand Prix Engineering with Patrick Head. The cars were nearly always competitive through the 1980’s and 1990’s winning 8 constructors championships and 7 drivers championship during this period despite Frank Williams being paralysed in a car crash in 1986 and the death of Ayrton Senna in 1994 in a Williams. After 2004 the fortunes of the Williams team declined and their lean spell of victories ended at Barcelona in 2012 when Pastor Maldonardo won for the team for the first time in 8 years. At the German GP in 2013 Williams competed in its 600th race. At the Monaco GP in 2021 Williams competed in their 750th race.
